Professional Experience

Since forming Trobe, Babowice & Associates in 2003, Peter Trobe has focused his practice on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, commercial litigation, and general civil litigation.  Mr. Trobe’s litigation practice includes representation of clients in both state and federal court.  Mr. Trobe also has experience serving as an arbitrator and mediator for parties seeking resolution of disputes outside of the courts.  Additionally, Mr. Trobe has been retained as an expert witness in cases involving attorney negligence issues. 

From 1989 to 1997, Mr. Trobe served as an Associate Judge in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, Lake County, Illinois.  His time on the bench included assignments in the Criminal, Law, Family Law, and Chancery divisions.  Mr. Trobe served as the Lake County chancery judge for three years. 

Mr. Trobe is an experienced trial attorney, having tried a number of cases over the course of his 20 years in private practice.  He has also tried hundreds of cases while a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois and as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Lake County.  While at the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mr. Trobe served as the Chief of the Felony Division and was responsible for prosecuting capital cases.

Professional & Community Activities

Mr. Trobe is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. 

Mr. Trobe currently serves a “big brother” in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.  Mr. Trobe has also served on the boards of the Community Youth Network and A Safe Place.

Representative Cases

Successfully tried a wrongful death case against a Lake County, Illinois hospital, resulting in a jury verdict in excess of $4 million.  Mr. Trobe represented the estate of a 42 year old man who died of a heart attack after failing to receive prompt or proper medical treatment upon arriving at the hospital.

Represented a group of homeowners seeking to disconnect their subdivision from the Village of Fox River Grove.  The McHenry County Circuit Court allowed the homeowners to disconnect their lots and return to unincorporated status following a multi-day trial.
